We have an old house with space issues. So I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see a recycling trash can that was efficient and compact. This two in one Rubbermaid recycler provides an easy way to efficiently separate and store your recycling. Plus – it keeps you on your toes and the compartments never get too heavy – an issue I have if you let it stack up inside too long before you take it outside to the big bin the city picks up. I showed it to my mom and she is actually going to buy one to organize the grandkids toys. Brilliant! The tip out and small compartments will fit into a closet, let her keep it out of the way, and it is easy for the kids to not only access – but to put toys away too. Not the original purpose – but hey! Get a few and let your imagination roll!

we have designated bins for our recycling and our recycling ends up to be much more then we throw away.
I keep a recycle bin under my desk at work. I don’t even have to get up to recycle

My recycling tip is to think outside the box. There are a lot of ways to recycle things that you would normally throw out. For example, we take old candle wax and remelt it and pour it into glass spaghetti jars to make multi colored and layered emergency candles for when the power goes out.

get used foil into a ball and put it into used aluminum cans to save space
Have a place to put recyclables near trash so the option is right there.
We put our recycling separate from the trash so it goes straight into the bin!
Clean and separate the recyclables as soon as you are done with it. Keep the bins close by so you remember to recycle it.
I usually have a big open cardboard box in the garage where I toss all my recyclables in – that way I only have to empty it every couple days (which keeps my trash can from filling up too quickly too). However, this can would be a LOT nicer looking than the cardboard box!
I try to keep a paper bag by the mail basket so we can automatically get rid of anything that doesn’t need to be kept and/or shredded first.
I keep a box in the kitchen for cans, plastic, cardboar, and glass
Having bins bearby in the kitchen is helpful and a good reminder to recycle…unfortunately we don’t have anything like that right now, though :-/
take cereal boxes etc apart to save room
Recycle paper with Paper Retriever! It helps your community too!
Keep the recycling bins/bags close at hand. We used to keep them in our garage but things stated to pile up. So we oved everything to the back porch and now we are better about making sure our recyclable items don’t pile up on the counters. bekki1820cb at gmail dot com
I have a corner area out of the way for us to put our recyclables. It makes it easier not to throw in the trash. And everyone knows where to put them. Thanks!
My tip: crush your cans, it creates more room so that you can recycle more!

First off, I try to buy products with as little packaging as possible so there is less to throw away or recycle. We don’t have to sort our recyclables so I generally use paper bags I get from stores, or the grocery, as the recycle bin then I can just take the whole bag when it’s full and drop it right into the big recycle bin outside.
