Sit Smile Stretch Review & Giveaway

It is that time of year – but to be truly successful with being healthy you need to try something that is not overwhelming and stick to it!  I love this book – appropriately called “Sit, Stretch Smile”.  It is very simple and has great pictures that show you step by step what to do – most of it in your chair.  I am a very active person, so I was surprised how many of the moves not just felt good but I had trouble doing – I am not very “bendy” apparently!  So this is a great easy way to start.  And I think it would be great for my elderly parents too.  As I was researching this book – I noticed that the main company – You Call This Yoga – is a non-profit.  Very cool!  So they help people feel better through books, classes etc – all very approachable stuff too!

About the Book

This fun and well detailed book about Chair Yoga will help anyone feel better, anywhere. When you learn to sit and position your body in a way to support the spine, you can reduce muscle tension plus back and neck pain, improve balance and ability to walk, and develop better breathing and muscle strength. This 64 page book is loaded with easy to follow color photos and written text to guide you from the most basic alignment position to more complex (but not into a pretzel) yoga movements.

About You Call This Yoga

After several variations, You Call This Yoga emerged as the smiling question/statement you might ask/answer when observing Howie’s slow-moving or long-held adaptive yoga poses. The conclusion is that when you practice any safe, mindful pose with awareness of your breathing. Then…You Call This Yoga.

The business was converted to a non-profit organization in 2010 to clearly demonstrate the original intent of creating yoga programs for the healing of our society. Currently, the four primary areas of You Call This Yoga’s educational programming are:

  1. Chair Yoga (seated)
  2. Restorative Yoga (rejuvenating)
  3. Yin Yoga (gentle deep stretching)
  4. Yoga Nidra (guided deep rest).

Plus more fun classes: Yoga for the Core & Gentle Senior.

I have fibromyalgia and sometimes it is not easy to get up and down form the floor. My father recently had a stroke and I believe in the idea that exercise in yoga can help.

I need to start doing something and yoga seems like a good place to start. I have a lot of stress and my Dr. has recommended that I try some form of exercise.
